Recycling and Waste Reduction Efforts

Wood
• Marvin’s wood utilization factor in the rip and cut process is one of the highest in the industry.
• Improved finger-jointing and edge gluing, along with additional research, have increased the amount of wood that can be used in finished products.
• Approximately 8,500 tons of packaging and logging waste are recycled annually. It powers the boiler, heats the plant, saves energy and reduces landfill waste.
• 14,000 tons of wood shavings are sold annually for animal bedding.

Cardboard and Paper
• An estimated 300 tons of cardboard and 90 tons of paper are recycled yearly.

Plastic
• Many types of plastic, including stretch wrap and shrink wrap, are recycled; approximately 100 tons per year.

Solvents and Paints
• A carbon absorption process enables thousands of gallons of solvent from our wood preservation process to be recycled.
• Waste paints are recycled through a licensed fuel blending operation.
• Factory-priming and painting products keeps waste paints in the factory where they’ll be properly recycled.
